Airport Express Question

Since updating to El Capitan from Snow Leopard I have gotten this popup on my MacBook Pro twice the the past few weeks. Never used to see this, see shot of it. Why does it do this? Thanks for any info.

Thats the Airport utility thats included with El Capitan. The red notification means that the express either has a software update or an issue that needs to be addressed.

Double click on the red 1 and it should tell you what the issue is.

It's a firmware update.
