Airport Express setup - printer + LAN only, no internet required

I have an older APX and simply wish to set it up as an wireless LAN for printing and running Keynote presentations using the app on my iPhone.

what's buggin me is the flashing amber light which AP Utility insists is because there's no ethernet cable attached and thus no internet.

blowed if I can find any instructions in Apple's FAQ's not hints in any forum as to how to disable this feature and eliminate the flashing light.

there must be a simple answer, but I've been unable to find it
