I have three airport express units on my network. The first is plugged into my router. I have this unit setup as my "main" basestation. Then, to extend the network, I have two other Airport Express units. I've recently just configured them as "relay" basestations.

My question is whether the "relay" basestation will distribute an IP address from the open ethernet port. I would like to setup a Thecus RAID server and in order to do this, I would like to plug it in on one of the "relay" basestations.

Thank you very much in advance.

in WDS mode (extend), the ethernet port should be part of the network. And the remote stations shouldn't hand out IPs, they should all come from the main base station.

in "join a network" mode, if the expresses are the newer N version, and the "allow ehternet clients" box is checked, you will also be able to do it.

also remember that for each jump in a WDS setup, your speed will drop approximately in half.
