Hi There,

I have an Airport Extreme dual band base station, which is set to Automatic (802.11a/n - 802.11b/g/n) for the Radio Mode. I do not have the 5GHz activated under Wireless Network Options. I then have the network selected to be extended, and I use a current generation Airport Express to extend my network to the rest of the house.

For some reason, the Airport Express is switching its channel to 149, which is on the 5GHz frequency and causing my 802.11g computers that require the extender to lose the network. I have my 2.4GHz network set to operate on channel 1.

Does anyone have any ideas why the Airport Express is switching to 5GHz and how to prevent this?

Thanks!

You cannot turn off 5ghz on the Airport Extreme. The option in Wireless Network Options is to give it a different SSID. So, if you are trying to force the Express to only use 802.11b/g/n, set a different SSID on the 5ghz using the above mentioned option. That should stop the Express from switching.
