Just want to know what everyones thoughts are with it....

If I get an airport express, and plug a USB Hub to it, will everything work alright? Here's the devices I would plug into it....

1. Wireless mouse (with receiver)
2. Printer
3. External HDD (maybe)
4. Speakers connected with a USB to Audio connecter, such as THIS for instance... (or, use Airfoil instead, but I hear that audio won't be in sync with video..I will see)

Or would this not work, am I missing something? Doesn't the USB port on the Express basically work as creating a wireless USB connection? I am not too familiar with Airport Express, so any help would be great

Thanks!

EDIT: Just noticed you said Express, and not Extreme. Only the printer will work through the USB. There is an audio out jack on the Express, you wouldn't need the dongle.

yes I am aware it has an audio out jack, but only works with iTunes - unless you have Airfoil, which I hear it can lag if you are trying to watch a video (the audio and video will not be in sync)

Anyways, whats the difference in capabilities between airport extreme and express?

The USB Hub I have is powered, does that make a difference? Here is the USB Hub I own: LINK

The Extreme allows up to 50 wireless clients, while the Express only allows 10.
Extreme, 3 gigabit ethernet ports. Express, no ethernet connectivity (when used as main router).
Extreme, simultaneous dual band/guest networks. Express, single network (2.4 or 5GHz).
Extreme, USB printer and HDD sharing. Express, only printer.
Both, cannot share any other devices via USB port (USB audio connector will not work).
Both, only print functions for printers, cannot scan.

thanks...this answers my question

Extreme, USB printer and HDD sharing.

Hi there,

Sorry if this is a stupid question...but i am hoping that the Extreme will help me. I have a USB printer, standard samsung thing that works well with my new macbook pro. I also have an external HDD for storage..

Can i plug the two of these into the Extreme aswell as our adsl and it will all work?!

Thanks!

By "as well as our adsl," do you mean that the ADSL uses USB? If so, the AirPort Extreme Base Station will not support it. Forgive my ignorance but I'm not familiar with ADSL as I've only ever had a Cable ISP.

If your ADSL connects via Ethernet, then your setup will work. All that's required is a USB hub for your printer and HDD, and connect that to your AEBS's USB port. You'll be able to configure and share both through AirPort Utility. Some say you need a powered USB hub while others claim an unpowered one will work. Also, I'm not certain which hub is best to use, but you may come up with a good suggestion if you do a quick search.
