I currently have my Powerbook connected wirelessly through Airport Base Station in my condo. I was wondering if it is worthwhile getting Airport Express for the sole purpose of having it connected to my stereo for iTunes? Are there cheaper alternatives (other than simple wired options)? I don't need a signal extender b/c my place is small enough that I get great reception everywhere. Thanks for any input...

That's something only you can answer. Of course your internet speed won't increase, so is $100~ (i don't remember) worth wireless audio? For me, it probably would be. But not for everyone.

There are certainly wireless audio transmission devices, but you'd be dragging around a very small external dish... they're for transmitting from fixed locations, not mobile ones. AFAIK, this is the only way to get sound transmitted using internal components.

I didn't have an Airport Extreme.... as a new switcher I thought they were a tad overpriced...

but now with my Airport Express here - I'm not only wireless - but have amazing music streaming via my home theatre system!

I love my music - and am very glad I bought one!

I bought one for my apartment this year at college. At home we already have an AirPort Extreme base station set-up, but it's still so useful to me since it lets me un-tether my PowerBook from my JBL Creature speakers and Epson C84 printer, giving me far greater mobility!
