iv got a router but was lookin for an extender and everyonne seems to have this so is it worth getting ????

The wireless extension function only works if the main router is an Apple AirPort. If it is a different brand router then the Express must be wired to the first router and will use the much more reliable Ethernet and let you roam between the two Wi-Fi devices.

just a router downstairs i dnt have access to but we get internet from it , but i wos wondering i could use the airport express as an extender but guess not

I would essentially function as a network client and an AirPlay device. The Ethernet port would work to provide access, but it cannot wirelessly extend a non-Apple router.

Well before we start talking extenders we need to see about your situation. The thing people do most and causes most issues is put an extender where terrible coverage is already. You will get better signal on the client, but then the extender is gasping for signal. You want it in the middle where the Signal to Noise Ratio drops to about 30.

Can you run Ethernet to another router and use it as an AP. Wireless extension is definitely worse than Ethernet as a backbone.

That will do the trick! The problem is getting it positioned correctly. Go to where you have a good signal and where it starts to decrease and put it there. Do not put it where there is weak signal already.

I use this:

And find it pretty good.

Remember that wifi is radio, so if you have really tough situations then matching a proper antenna may be the ticket. Even if you have to go outdoors to do it.

I'd recommend against getting an Airport Express; I had one and Apple ditched software support for it. And they're overpriced. And require a unique bit of software, that stinks, for configuration. And for your use extremely limited unless you have an Extreme already.
