Airport Extreme 802.11n (newb questions)

HI, I just bought an Airport Extreme base station, and set up my network. I have a couple of questions about the built in firewall on the Extreme. Namely, how can I make sure it's turned on and functioning, and what settings are best. I also have an xbox 360 and I have been reading that some people are experiencing problems connecting to xbox live with the extreme.
