Hi all,

I am wanting to attach an external HDD to my Airport Extreme for wireless access. Just want to drag and drop files, not create time machine backups.

I have a MacBook and my girlfriend has a Windows 7 laptop. Will we both be able to access the files? Or will only one of us, depending on the way it is formatted?

Thanks!

Formatting has nothing to do with being able to access the drive once connected to the Extreme. The Extreme allows Macs to access the drive using AFP and Windows machines to access it using SMB (network filing protocols used by OS X and Windows respectively).

The drive should be formatted as HFS+ and cannot be accessed by Windows machines if connected directly (without third party software), but will be accessible by Windows once it's connected to the Extreme.
