My router (Billion 7800DXL) died a few days ago so I've bought an Airport Extreme to replace it. Everything works fine except Microsoft Remote Desktop. I cannot connect to my Windows PC through my iMac or MacBook Pro. I've added Windows Remote Desktop to network settings in Airport Utility so port 3389 should be open and I'm not using any software firewalls either on the iMac or the PC.

When trying to connect I get the message "Unable to connect to remote PC. Please provide the fully-qualified name or the IP address of the remote PC, and then try again."

I've changed nothing except the router. Any ideas, please?

Is this on the local network or over the Internet? Is the AirPort in DHCP and NAT mode or Bridge Mode?

CoRD didn't work either. I've noticed that the Windows PC shows up under "shared" in Finder and I can connect to it. However, I can't see much of any use. The C drive is missing but I can see the D drive with my data on it. Most of the data is not visible. Document, music and picture folders are also visible but, again, I can't see anything in the folders.

It's all very strange, given that that it all worked perfectly with my old router. I'm beginning to wonder if buying an Airport was a good idea...it's not very configurable!

Let me do some research and I will report back.

Okay, thank you. Your help is very much appreciated.

I've had no luck in Googling the problem. Please don't make this high on your list of priorities...I'm off to West Africa for 8 weeks work on Monday. It's just rather frustrating that something that worked perfectly before won't work now!

Do the ports you forwarded verify as open?

I've solved the problem:). With hindsight it should have been obvious to start at the Windows PC end! I had to go into Windows 8 network settings and turn on "find devices and content". That did the trick.

Thank you very much for all your responses.
