Airport Extreme and Wireless Capable Printers: What's the trick?

The woods just outside NY,NY.
With my previous routers, once a wirelss printer was on the router I simply hit + or add printer and the computer, whether it was a Mac or a Windows machine, would see it. With the Airport Extreme any printer connected via the USB hub is instantly available wirelessly, but printers connected to the router via a wireless IP address do not show up unless I manually input the IP address. What gives? Any thoughts or solutions?
