I currently have a Belkin wireless router, it works fine. Could I put an Airport Extreme in another room of the house and use the Ethernet ports to connect to various computers, sort of as a shared WiFi adapter? I have a few desktops that are finicky about USB WiFi adapters, so perhaps routing my current WiFi signal through this and putting it into my computers through Ethernet might solve this. Basically, the WiFi would need to be a bridge between the modem and router in one part of the house, and my systems in another. I wish I could simply move the modem and router, but they must stay where they are.

Sure, it's called using the Airport Extreme as a 'Wireless Ethernet Bridge'. Here's an Apple Support document on it, though it's kinda old. You'll get better instructions if you just google: Airport Extreme wireless ethernet bridge
