I just received an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station that I won on eBay. They guy said he had it for only a month and posted a link to apple for the latest Airport Base.

It was a gift for him so he doesn't know if it is the NEW "simultaneous dual-band" version.

Now I believe that there are 2 kinds of numbers associated with apple products. A part number and a model number.

The Part number on Apples sight shows a "MC340LL/A". But no Model Number is shown.

The Model Number on the bottom of the Airport Base that I got is "A1143".

Can anyone tell me if the one that I got is the most recent Airport Extreme Base? Maybe those of you who just bought the recent Airport Extreme Base can tell me what Model Number shows on the bottom of your router?

I just googled the part number and got this:
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-AirPort-Simultaneous-Dual-Band-MC340LL/dp/B002TLTG9E

Looks like it is the Simultaneous Dual Band.

I am not sure then. I would say it is the dual band. Think of it this way, the 2.26GHz model # is MB990LL/A and the 2.53GHz model # is MB991LL/A. They are different.
For what it's worth.

Well, it may be Simultaneous Dual Band... I just got the Setup Guide on Apple.com, and I downloaded the one that was March 2009. The Previous Guide available dates back to 2007, which isn't Dual Band.

The guy I bought it from says it was a gift, that it's new, and he only used it for a month, so it has to have been bought sometime this year.

Doing a search on A1143 brings up the part number MB053LL/A. And doing a search on that brings up that it is not the dual band version.

The current version is MC340LL/A = dual band + greater range.
The last version is MB763LL/A = first dual band version.
MB053LL/A = version before that = non dual band version, first gigabit version.

If you've already set it up, go into your AirPort Utility and you can check to see if it has dual band capability. Chances are it doesn't though.

I just used an app on my iPhone called, "Mactracker" and this is what came up for that Model number:

Wow... thanks...

That sucks... Oh well... risk you take buying from someone on eBay.

at least it supports Wireless N...

Not sure that is going to help much, since Comcast Cable only pushes 12 Mbps Download and 2 Mbps Upload, which my Netgear Wireless G already supports up to 54 Mbps.

And thanks for the App Info... I wish I had this earlier...

That may have helped me know what kind of product I'm getting... Hopefully it helps me in the future. I'm downloading it now.

It seems they all have the same Model No. A1143 and it is the Part no. that specifies which version of the device you have. This Part no. is on the bottom of the box. The older one with just 10/100 ethernet was MA073LL/A. Mine is last year's device with 10/100/1000 and the Part no. is MB053LL/A. So it's possible that you have the dual band model if your Part no. is newer still.

You could always plug it in and find that Airport Utility will say:
Voila_Capture7.jpg

But FWIW, the one I am selling is non-dual band but wireless N and has a part # of MA073LL/A.

When I added the Airport Extreme Base Station to my cart off the student store I get: MC340LL/A

I am guessing that is the new Model number for when the series was update in October.

I hope this helps others looking for the new updated unit,

On October 20, 2009, Apple unveiled the updated AirPort Extreme Base Station with antenna improvements resulting in wireless performance gains of both speed and range. Also stated is a resulting performance improvement/time reduction on Time Machine backups of up to 60%.
