If I purchase an Airport Extreme card for my Airport ready G5, will I be able to share my high speed cable connection to a WiFi equipped HP laptop in my upstairs bedroom? Or, would I better off buying a router, lots of cable and drilling holes in order to reach my bedroom?
Thank you

You can share the internet connection to the other computer from an Airport Equipped Mac. However if you shut off the Mac, the laptop won't have internet. :)

If you do buy a router just buy a wireless router. Then you won't have to buy any cable. The cost of the cable and time it would take to run all the cable would probably be more than just spending an extra $30 or so to get a wireless router.
