Hi, all,

I've got an Airport Extreme as the base station of my WiFi network. The Extreme is only a year or two old. I also had on the network an older Airport Express (the ancient kind that directly plugs into the wall.)

I just bought a new Express, as I thought this would improve range and speed of connection in parts of my home upstairs. I removed the old Express and then set up the Express to extend my network.

My network appears to be working fine, but I noticed my base station, the Extreme, is reporting an error--it is "part of a WDS network, but no other Airport base stations were found." My research indicates that I probably had the Extreme and the original Express set up as a WDS network, and so it (the Extreme) is complaining about the lack of the old Express.

Is this error an issue for my network or something I can safely ignore? I don't want to muck with the base station if I don't need to, as I have a lot of devices that connect to the network periodically and changing the password, preferences, etc. scares me. If it's going to cause signal quality issues, on the other hand, I may have to just face the beast.

(The Airport Extreme can see the new Express, just FYI--my Airport Utility, in Lion, shows them in a line: Internet-->Extreme-->Express. I'm currently working in a part of the house where I'd have poor or no reception if I didn't have a relay working properly, so the network does appear to be functioning.)

Also, one other question: Can I use my old Airport Express on the network anywhere, or will it drag down the entire network to rotten speeds?

Thanks for any advice you can provide--I appreciate it!
