Hi Everyone - need some help please

Just purchased an Airport extreme base station which i have connected to my Netgear router via LAN. Been through the set-up and have it connected in bridge mode.

I've downloaded iStumbler and i'm very disappointed with the results.

My old "g" Netgear is sometimes giving a better signal than the new AEBS. In fact my neighbours g router sometimes appears better!!!!

Also the n-5ghz signal is always worse than the n-2.5ghz signal - i thought this was suppose to be a vast improvement over g.

On the verge of taking this thing back and just using my old g router.

Any words of wisdom much appreciated.

5Ghz has a much smaller range. Mostly because it can't penetrate things as well as the 2.4Ghz band. It just how radiowaves work. The less the hertz the more stuff the wave can go through and the farther it can go. But, too small and it becomes quite useless for larger transmissions.

You get slightly faster internet over N but less range.

G is not as good as N but has further range.

So with that in mind, choose which is better suited for you.

If your not too far away from the router put it on N.
