Airport Extreme Life Span

I have a Airport Extreme that I bought in 2003 and 5Mbps cable internet service. Over the past several months, my internet connection has run more and more slowly. There does not seem to be a problem with the internet provider, so I have to think that there is a problem with my Airport Extreme.

MY Airport Extreme is almost 6 years old. Has it outlasted its functional lifespan? :confused: Please advise.
