I have a Airport extreme fast Ethernet model. Right now I have 2 macbook pros connected via 802.11n 5Ghz only. I need to connect a wii which is 802.11 g. Will I see a big difference in speed if I change my settings to 802.11n (b/g compatible). Or is it best to use a separate base station just for the wii.

depends on what you're using your network for, for internet, no, most home connections in the US are slower than a G network.
For file transfers within the network, it will be a bit slower, but shouldn't be terrible unless you are regularly doing large (several GB) transfers.
for sharing of music files, you probably wouldn't notice a difference.
