It looks like my one month old 2TB Time Capsule has just died. I can't get any light or sound from it. The data on it is not a big problem although there are some photos I will be sad to lose.

My question is, do Airport Extremes suffer from the same heat problems as Time Capsules? I prefer the all-in-one solution of the TC but want something that is reliable.

Airport Extremes are much more reliable because they don't have an integrated power supply and internal hard drive. Usually the failure point on Time Capsules is the power supply due to heat.

Thanks for the helpful information. Interesting that it doesn't have a built in power supply. I wonder why the TC does.

I agree, my old TC got very hot and then eventually died.
My new airport extreme is much cooler and very stable :)

My AE has been running in a cupboard (with the door closed) for over 2 years now, 24/7.
No problems whatsoever.
