Airport Extreme problems (2)

I'm seeking help with 2 problems with my Airport Extreme.
1. When I disconnect the power cord to my laptop, the Airport Extreme shuts off (green light goes off). Laptop and Airport are connected separately to power strip.
2. Lexmark 500n is connected to Airport Extreme. If idle for a period of time, when I try to print, printer application says looking for printer and will never print the document that is listed by the printer app. If I unplug the Airport and replug, then the document prints.
