Airport Extreme USB Router Problem

Have the latest version of AE. When I plug my Brother MFC 6800 printer directly into the AE, it is detected and I can print no prob. When I put a USB 2.0 powered hub into the AE, and plug the printer in the hub, it is not detected. However, the external hard drive used for Time Machine is detected when plugged into the hub. Talked with Apple Support; very nice, but unfortunately they had no bright ideas. Anybody else have any suggestions? Thx
