I just connected an external drive to my airport extreme and would like to setup user accounts.

I saw something about apple id's but is there a way to make it so that I can assign user names and passwords?

Also most of the users accessing the drive won't be on the home network.

I havent a clue what Im doing, any help is greatly appreciated.

If you're using the latest version of Airport Utility.app (6.3.1 I believe):

Open Airport Utility.app (in the Applications/Utilities folder). Select the Airport Extreme and click the Edit button. Click the Disks tab, and for the "Secure Shared Disks" drop-down, pick "With accounts".

For each user account, click the "+" button and give it a user name, password, and r/w permissions.

Note: I haven't actually applied these changes to my Time Capsule, so you're on your own from there... !

Hope that helps some.
