I just purchased an AirPort Extreme. I installed the software, plugged it in, and proceeded through the setup assistant. I'm getting extremely slow wired performance and wireless is all but non-existent.

The AirPort is connected to my cable modem and my PowerMac via CAT5E cables. There is nothing else connected, wired or wireless.

My wired throughput speeds are very slow, much slower that I had with my previous Microsoft wireless router. I found that if I disable wireless support on the AirPort, that my wired throughput functions normally. With wireless enabled, my wired throughput is very slow. To illustrate...

AirPort wireless ON:
download: 905 kb/s
upload: 266 kb/s

AirPort wireless OFF:
download: 9551 kb/s
upload: 486 kb/s

Can anyone help? Why does wireless ON/OFF affect my wired speeds?

Thank you,
Matt

What are you downloading to test? Something on a FTP server you are hosting locally perhaps?

The 'slow' test looks like you are going through your cable modem over wireless.

Do a traceroute to your download server in both cases I bet the routing is different.
