Reason I am asking is that, in addition to wanting to upgrade my internal HDD (separate thread), I want to be able to access my photo and music library from anywhere in the house (as well as my documents, of course).
I have two macs - a Power Mac for my main use and a PowerBook for when I am out and about, as well as working from anyhwere else in the house.
My wife has an HP laptop for work.
We want the ability to share a HDD and a printer.
Will an airport extreme meet this requirement? Any real life performance issues?
Or am I better off spending the money on an old mac mini and setting it up as a server?
Or, is buying ethernet enabled HDD and printer a better option?
And, in any of the above, will I still be able to use Time Machine to backup my computers?
