My current Linksys router now runs wireless around 500KB/s (through Ethernet it hits 30mbit/s.) So I desperately need something new. The Airport Extremes are looking really nice, except there are reports of fresh models being released "soon." Worth it or not?

Mine is great.

Yet I cannot suggest any Apple hardware that may be made obsolete by the iCloud transformation. For some this is exciting, for others not so much.

If your current router is functional, I suggest you wait since we are pretty close to refresh. New Airport Extremes may have TB or other features that may be worth it.

Unless your current router is not functioning then wouldn't it be prudent to wait for a month to see what transpires with iCloud/Lion. Better that kicking your self for rushing it.

I doubt though that even Apple expects every Mac owner to buy a new airport/TC to take advantage iCloud. (it would make a mockery of Apple far beyond that with the prior launch issues of MobileMe.)
