airport extreme wifi card trouble

i just bought a used mac pro from ebay with the airport extreme wifi card installed in it. however, when i try to connect to my home network, it cant find any and it says that the airport extreme isnt installed. do i need to buy the $1.99 airport extreme enabler from apple or what? please help thanks in advance
