Airport from wake problem

Hello,
I have an intermittent problem with AirPort. Occasionally when my imac wakes up I have no internet access, the AirPort strength indicator is on max, but I have no internet. If I turn AirPort off & then back on all is then fine. I guess the wireless router (netgear DG834GT)is fine as a windows 7 laptop & a linux netbook can still access the internet. The iMac was using DHCP, but I have now given it a static IP address.
Has anybody else had this problem & know a solution ?
I am using a C2D 27" iMac with OS X 10.6.3.
