Airport gone from European stores?

The AirPort Extreme Base Station seems to be removed from European stores. Could that mean that a product update is on it's way, or is it safe to buy a base station at my Apple Center?

It's because it doesn't meet certain environmental criteria after new regs came into effect in July

The iSight is gone for the same reason.

I seem to recall that it was something to do with the levels of lead (perhaps in the solder)

It could be several substances. Even chips need to be fabricated differently.

it's just my luck as well as my router has packed up - was going to go with a Extreme base station looks like i'm going to have to wait or get another Belkin thingy

You might still find it in the retail channel.

I bought an Airport Extreme base station for my parents this spring. At first I talked to an Apple reseller and he said that the Extreme base station was going to be discontinued so they weren't going to order any more. I could still buy it on the online apple store, though.

I don't know how much weight to put on that. Salespeople, in my experience, often say the strangest things to cover up their own ignorance.
