Airport icon not appearing on Emac

I have an eMac (ATI Graphics), which I'd like to use on my home wifi network. I bought an Airport Extreme card and installed it - but the icon doesn't appear on screen. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Please?

I switch them out alot and as soon as you plug one in you should get the empty icon, then just open system prefs and it will pop up and auto configure. What version of osx are you running. Did you try to re-seat the card and antenna...

Thanks for replying. I'm running Leopard and have tried re-installing the card several times, but still no sign of icon. Is that what you mean by reseating?

i just meant making sure it was in properly. I notice that when i think it is in all the way it is not. I usually get at a lower angle (my body) and push it from the bottom edge of the card and it snaps in another 1/4 cm or so...

Thanks. I just tried it and same problem. I'm wondering if the card, which I got used on eBay, might be faulty.
