I really doubt AirPower will release in 2018, with only a few weeks left. They have to release it next week for it to be a Christmas item, which is unlikely. When do you think AirPower will release now?

There is know forseeable future with the AirPower, unless Apple changes something with the manufacturing process, It may never be a future product given that it experienced rumored hardware issues with the wireless coils.

It’s a shame. For me wireless charging isn’t quite there just yet. I thought I’d be able to have something in which when I go to bed late (after my wife, which is often the case) I’d be able to plonk my phone down on a wireless charging mat without having to fumble with a cable in the dark.

It sort of works but I have to make sure that the phone is placed just so otherwise it fails to charge or fails to charge properly. Then there’s a chance that the phone will be knocked out of place during the night. Result - no charge. As advertised AirPower would allow less precise placement and I’d also be able to charge other accessories too.

A vertical wireless charger is a better option for bedside charging but then I might as well use a standard dock with lightning connector.

I can see how a wireless charger can be handy if you sit at a desk most of the day but that’s not me.

I'm certain Apple's work on it will see the light of day in some form.

They haven't released the updated AirPods with a wireless charging case yet, and I believe the only hold up has been the AirPower mat. It's possible Apple has delayed releasing the updated AirPods because they believe AirPower will be ready sooner rather than later (although late for 2018).

Also, keep in mind that Amazon's Alexa was recycled from Amazon's failed smartphone project. The resources that went onto developing the Alexa platform for the smartphone eventually paid off for Amazon with their Echo speakers. It's possible Apple could use parts of AirPower in other products even if AirPower itself never comes to market as it was shown.

I think there's going to be an announcement or something put out later today around 5pm or so saying its delayed. They like to announce that kind of stuff late in the day on Fridays. They can't just not say anything about it and sweep it under the rug. I bet it's something along the lines of "we cant wait for it to get into our customers hands, but we need a bit more time" ala HomePod.

Perhaps they realized that the very design itself was going to work poorly with users of the Milanese Loop, Link Bracelet, Sport Loop and Leather loop bands.

I think that has very little to do with it tbh. I would say 90% of people who I see with Apple Watches are using sport bands or 3rd party leather bands. It definitely is a limitation of it, but it would still work if you took one of the sides of the band off. I think the best use case for this is for someone who travels a lot. Super convenient to only need to grab one charger for everything.

Obviously they can. :D
