I'm doing some research for my dad. He had a bunch of stuff stolen (including a camera and an ipod) and his current computer is in severe need of replacement. He travels for a living and has a need to print things for his work. I thought that an iPad would suffice for a temporary camera fix, an ipod replacement, and sufficient for a computer with internet and (with pages) document creation.
The hang up is printing. Wifi printers generally will not be able to connect to hotel wifi internet, so the ipad and the printer will not be able to be on the same wifi network and, therefore, airprint won't work. But what about getting a cheap router that has the ability to create an ad hoc network? If you connect the printer and the ipad to that ad hoc network, would you be able to print using airprint?
If this is possible 1) will an airport express router work for this, 2) can the iOS airport utility app on the ipad set up an ad hoc network, and 3) are there airprint enabled printers that set up their own ad hoc networks that would allow you to print from iOS?
