AirPrint of small email taking up two sheets

I've got a three quarters sheet of A4 email, which when i AirPrint uses two sheets of paper.
The first sheet has a three inch gap at the bottom and the second sheet has an inch of printed material and nothing else so it could easily fit on one sheet.

When i use my 2011 iMac to print it, it comes out ok.

Anyone know what could be going on?

Print options/formatting on an iDevice are very sparse, so you can fix the document on your computer and add it back to your iDevice or just live with it.
