Can someone please tell me how to enable AirPrint for/on a windows computer. If there is any further information needed to help just let me know because I really want to set it up. Thank you very much.

Sigh. The response to this is all over the forums but I feel generous tonight.

1. Download iTunes 10.1.
2. Obtain 4.2GM for the iPad.
3. Connect iPad to iTunes.
4. When Enable AirPrint message pops up - agree.
4a. If no message - go under pref.
5. Under control panel --> Printers and devices (depending on what windows), make sure your printer is set to "Share this printer with other users on this network" (wording may be off).
6. While your laptop is running - you can use AirPrint on the iPad.

You may now ask - why do I need my laptop running? Well, Apple is stupid enough to make iPad act like an iPhone in this regard where the HP e-printers or any printer that can accept email attachments is required to print from basically any device. I personally feel that the iPad print service should act more like the HP iPrint app or the Brother print app which sense all wireless HP or brother, respectively, printers and then print to it - without the need of a laptop in the first place.

Sorry, but that is wrong information.
That was the case with the beta of iTunes 10.1, but that functionality has been removed in the release version.
To get Airprint working now on Windows you have to follow the procedure here

I just downloaded & ran itunes_10.1_beta__windows and iOS4.2gm found my printer with none of what Realeric did in your post.. Not saying it's that would be the same for all but sure a easy way to give it a shot, if it doesn't work then I'd go for Realeric's solution..

The important bit there is that you used iTunes 10.1 beta: The AirPrint functionality was removed from the shipping version of iTunes so you have to use the workaround

I did everything you said to but under preferences there was no control panel so I'm just downloading iTunes 10.1 beta 2 again.

It's been awhile since I've used Windows and I don't have it in front of me but I believe he's referring to the Control Panel on Windows, found in the Start menu, not in iTunes.

Whilst that would be fantastic if it worked, there's the small problem of drivers. The HP or Brother print apps bundle the drivers into app so that the iPhone knows how to speak to the printer. However, there's over a gigabyte of printer drivers bundled with OSX because of the sheer number of them. It would be impossible to write one driver to handle every printer, so the iPhone hands over control of printing to the OSX or Windows machine with the shared printer. It's a technical decision and all due to printer drivers.

That's because you're running the beta - as has been said over and over!
If you want to be compatible with the release version of 10.1 and above, then follow the link I posted.

Did you not read my post #4?
The advice you are following is incorrect.
To use the 10.1 release version with Airprint follow what I posted in #4, otherwise stick with the beta, but that is not recommended.

No that advice is technically not wrong... Apple can't make up their mind so yes, in the current version the option to choose AirPrint from pref or control panel or wherever has been removed but it is bound to come back. Don't ask me how because I cannot tell you that - let your own maturity speak for itself on that matter.

Yes, that advice was 'technically' wrong.
Whether or not things change in the future doesn't alter the fact that there is no 'preferences' option for AirPrint any more. So, you advice was simply incorrect.
There are only 2 ways currently to get this working. Either use the old beta (not recommended) or use the workaround on the release version (recommended).
Simple as that.
