AirPrint quality is really bad, help!?

I use AirPrint from my iPhone 4s to my Epson Workforce 845 and the quality is really bad. Text is not crisp at all, and photos are somewhat washed out. The printer prints these fine via my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard.

So, is there a way to change the settings to improve the print quality? Any ideas or suggestions? I didn't find any place to change AirPrint settings, and changing my printer settings didn't seem to have any effect.
