So far the AirTag I have seems handy, what I’d love to see would be a Geofencing ability that pings you when you get out of a certain range of the item the AirTags on.

For example my laptop bag, it’d be great to get a notification that I’ve left the bag behind when I get a certain distance away from the device it’s linked to, that’s way just pop back and get my bag no fuss and no long return trips.

To avoid false hit’s if the geofencing was programmed to recognise that the item’s in a safe location like home or work then you wouldn’t get pinged every time you leave home or work without that item.

Just a thought, if it had this then I’d stick an AirTag in my laptop bag and on my umbrella for sure!

I would like to see that feature as well. The problem is dong that on a regular basis would probably chew up the coin battery. If that mean 2 coins a year per tag, I would be fine with that. If that meant 1 a month, I would have to rethink priority.

It’s a good point, think the battery may take a slight hit, given the battery lasts a year based on testing by pining it once a day (unlikely to happen) by setting off active features in the AirTags like the speaker.

But with this feature most if not all the work would be on the iPhone side.

From what I’ve heard the AirTags send out a “ping” to the network every 15 mins if this was reduced then maybe the battery wouldn’t take that hard a hit. And at £/$ 1 per battery it’s not that big a deal for me at leat.

Until the Watch can do this after being separated from the phone, I don't hold much hope for AirTags doing this.

It would be good even if you could have it alert you when you lose BT connectivity then it switches to ping the FM network more often. Good use case for in your carry on/laptop bag when at the airport.
