Hello there

I’ll be traveling to Asia in a few weeks and was wondering what is your experience using AirTags to track suitcases. I only had once a lost baggage but that never happened in Asia.

I’m considering buying 3 for 3 suitcases and an extra one for something else.

not much to say about it... i have one in my suitcases. does the job you'd expect it to do.

not sure what the question is. suggestion, put it -inside- the bag.

My new carryon even has a hidden pocket designed for an AirTag. I’m just looking for another 4 pack sale myself.

I got 4 and will travel to AMS, SIN, TPE, MNL to put them in good use. It will be for tracking luggage’s while waiting for them at the carrousel. 3 will be used for luggage but I wonder what to do with the 4th.

Happened once, as I mentioned in OP. I don’t see much apart from tracking upcoming suitcase, that is why I was wondering what can it be used for. If I had a cat, maybe I would attach it to him but not sure it’s made for animals, though. I’m still thinking of other use-cases, in the meantime.

These are my use cases:

Vehicles
Car/House keys
Storage Unit keys
Backup set of keys
Overnight/B-O-Bag
Laptop / Camera Sling
Backpack
Luggage
Eyeglasses ( Orbit x Glasses )
Bike
Wallet
Work ID Badge / 2FA Fob
Work Keyboard (custom / mechanical)

I will give it to my mom for her car, she is always panicking when parking somewhere. Thank you very much for the suggestion.

Something you might consider, once paired to her Apple ID she can share the airtag with you. That way you see where her car is as well.

And also, if she has an iPhone, maps will show where her car is too.

Back from my first trip and it worked but it’s not “real time”: when we landed the suitcase was in the middle of France on my AMS-NCE flight.

For my mom, I put it in the car but we didn’t have the time to try. Is it mandatory to use Apple Plan or can I use Google Maps? Although I’m trying to get rid of all Google things, on a side note.

The location will only be updated when an internet connected iPhone detects and uploads its location to Apple.

If, between its last location in the sky and its path down the carousel to you, an iPhone did not detect it, there would be no way to have it's location update.

You can only use FindMy app to track it.

Use one in my bag whenever I travel. Works very well. Only issue I’ve seen is in countries without a large number of iphones, the bag’s location will not update until it appears in the traveler portion of the airport terminal.

Ive noticed this in many countries with a lack of iPhone.

Definitely a good idea to track your checked bags when flying. On a recent flight (in Asia), I got delayed on my way to the luggage claim area, so that the belt was already running and full of luggage by the time I got there. I didn't see my suitcase on the belt, so I started watching the new ones as they appeared. Then I noticed my suitcase sitting on someone else's luggage cart, along with a bunch of other luggage. The person happened to be standing nearby me, if he wasn't I probably wouldn't have seen it. I walked up and told him it was my suitcase. He just said "sorry" as I took it off the cart. Was it an honest mistake, or was he trying to steal it? I'll never know. But either way I might never have seen it again had I not spotted it. Ever since then I've been meaning to get Airtags to keep in my luggage while traveling. still haven't done it, though.

As many said, it's a very good idea.
This summer, my wife took with her 4 suitcases overseas, and I bought a pack of 4 Airtags, and I'm glad I did!
One luggage got lost, and the Airtag was a huge help, and made us realize that the airline was telling us the luggage is in one airport, but the airtag was in another airport... So, it made it possible to know where it was live.

Sometimes, it took a day or so to update its location, because it relies on nearby iPhones, but iPhones are widely available these days.

Honestly, it's the best investment you can do for your luggage.
