I'm trying to figure out the problem I'm having with Airtunes. When playing music it will start cutting out. So while you're listening the song sounds fine cuts out for a second plays for a few seconds then cuts out again and keeps doing this repeatedly.
The music is being streamed simultaneously via Wifi over 802.11n to three Airport Expresses and one Apple TV. The source is a Mac Pro connected via Gigabit Ethernet to an Airport Extreme.
For the most part it seems the Apple TV is having the cutting out issue. The Expresses all seem to work fine.
For increased WiFi coverage the Expresses are set to extend the wireless network. So I could not say whether the Apple TV is connecting directly to the Airport Extreme or one of the Expresses. I'd assume an Express since two are closer to the Apple TV than the Extreme.
Could the four devices be too much for wireless Airtunes? Could it be related to the music going from the Extreme to an Express then to the Apple TV?
Edit: I also haven't tried 5Ghz since not all devices support 5Ghz and the shorter range. Do the 5ghz, 2.4ghz and guest network use different wireless chips? The problem seems to be most prevalent when people come home and their devices connect to the network and surf the internet. I also noticed that web browsing slows way down over WiFi when Airtunes is running. As much as from 58mbps to 3 or 4 mbps.
