While unfortunately I agree with the former I take some issue with the latter. The cost of hosting and streaming compressed lossless music is minimal these days and dropping by the day. HD video streaming is common place and you can stream up to 10 or more ALAC songs concurrently in the same size stream. Also ALAC songs are only 3x to 4x the size of AAC 256bps
