Is anything there really new?

I thought it had most of those features already...

Doesn't look too appealing to me. My only biff is that Stuffit doesn't support multi-processing. Every time I do serious compressing my 1st processor is going full blast and my second just sits there. I guess its nice that I have the whole second processor so I can do other stuff while stuffit is working but seriously! How long have MP macs been around? I wouldn't think it would be too hard to enable, you could maybe have multiple compression jobs running at the same time.

The Queen is Dead. Long live the Queen.

Seriously, Stuffit is done. It's a zip world nowadays, and with zip being built into Panther, the sun will set on the empire soon.

Personally, I think Alladin had this coming. Stuffit is slow, not multi-threaded, and has a quirky UI. Plus, the new file format while having better compression and encryption is not broadly used.

They rested on their laurels, I suspect, and I foresee their place in the Mac trivia books as a utility whose days are long gone by.

My Test.

I want to compress a 4 MB file.

This is a PDF file.

I will use various (popular) compression methods, if I missed one please ask me to test it.

Compressed using SitX -- 1.8 MB
Compressed using GZip -- 3.1 MB
Compressed using ZIP -- 3.1 MB
Compressed using Sit -- 3.1 MB
Compressed using Disk Copy (to DMG) -- 3.2 MB

All Hail SitX?
