Alarm sound on Apple Watch 7

I just got an Apple Watch 7 yesterday. So far so good except the alarm and timer chime. It is not very loud at all. I have the alert volume set as high as it will go. I have restarted both my Watch and phone (iPhone 12 pro max) to no avail. Am I missing something? The Watch is not on silent, but, the phone is.

Same on Series 4 in bedside mode. Not loud enough to wake someone from deep sleep. Even the steadily increasing pre-alarm brightness - a good idea in theory - doesn’t work so well in practice as it dims as soon as the overly-quiet alarm actually starts.

I would like Apple to give us some volume control. And to also let us choose the length of snooze on the watch and phone.
