Alarm sound only plays through headphones?

When I go to set an alarm, and I pick what kind of alarm noise I want, I can preview them through the built-in speaker. But when the alarm actually goes off at the right time, it does not play through the built-in speaker, it will only play through the headphones.

Is this the way it's supposed to be?
 
Yes, it is supposed to be that way (because the touch doesn't have a speaker.)

Though, I've found, with mine, I can hear it clicking (might be coming through the headphones, not sure.)

When I preview the noise, it does play through the speaker. Whatever speaker it is that makes the clicking noises, I would imagine. So I know it's possible to play noises, it just doesn't do that when the alarm actually goes off.
 
okay, if you go to settings, then general, then sound effects, make sure the "Both" list item is checked. If it is and your still not getting sound for your alarm, im guessing its a bug apple needs to work out. Mine is checked to both but sometimes the alarm will not play.
 
I've tried it on both Alarm and Timer (the only to places I know of where you can trigger a noise) and both will preview through the speaker but will only play through the headphones when actually set off.

This goes for any setting for audio through headphones/speakers/both. :( I will report this.
 
Mine plays through both on the alarm? :confused:

And under my Settings --> Sound Effects ---> Both are selected.
 
Well, Apple has acknowledged the issue, no harm in trying the steps mentioned in the link.

Issue or symptom
In certain instances, the alarm set via Clock on iPod touch may not make a sound effect through the built-in speaker, but may make a sound effect through the headphones.

Products affected
iPod touch
iPod touch software 1.1.2

Solution
If this happens, sync iPod touch with iTunes and then turn iPod touch off (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button, then drag the onscreen red slider). Turn iPod touch on and then verify that you have Sound Effects configured as you would expect by tapping Settings > General > Sound Effects.

Additional Information
This does not affect alarms set via Calendar.
