Hi !

I was helping a friend with a problem in his HD. I ran Smart Utility on mine and was really alarmed for what I saw.

Not only SMART says "FAILING" (opposed to MAC's disk utility that says "PASSED"), but the test found a couple bad sectors, and the SMART stats are pretty alarming, specially the Load Cycles, that are around 250,000 for a vaguely 4 months old HD (Toshiba 400Gb)

I disabled sudden motion sensor for there's a talk everywhere that it may increase the load cycles innecessarily.

Thing is my HD seems perfect... prior to running this utility, I never suspected anything. It is quite full, I have 8 partitions, 3 MacOS and 2 linux installed on it, so I'm sure I pretty much use most of the HD surface. Never a single noise, a single error....

But the report from Smart Utility (www.volitans-software.com).... well it's kinda frightening for me. I don't know if Im interpreting the values correctly, that's why I ask for your kind help. Please find attached screen shot of the utility showing all the values. It could also help if you guys with a MacBokPRO (santa rosa) check your cycle count and report if it is too high.

Thanx in advance!
