Alarms and timer signals on the Apple Watch seem to consist of wrist taps and buzzes (haptics). Is there any way to get sound signals such as rings or chimes?

My countdown timer both dings and taps. I have not tried an alarm. Any chance your watch is muted or the volume is turned down?

Yes, you were right. For some reason, probably accidentally, my Mute was turned on. Thanks very much.

My guess is you activated the "Cover to Mute" accessibility feature where you cover the screen (say, with your palm) for I believe 3 seconds and mute is automatically switched on. I've done it accidentally a time or two and believe I've seen some people on here say they have as well.

Yes, that's no doubt what happened. I did set the Cover to Mute option and didn't notice that it shut off my sound.
