iPod Album Artist?

Since the new upgrade to iTunes 7 in the ID tags they have now added Album Artist. This may seem like a dumb question but I'm not understanding what the Album Artist is for?

Is it something like if you have a compilations album say from Ministry of Sound you would have something like:

Name: Chilling
Artist: Modjo
Artist Album: Ministry of Sound
Album: Chillout Sessions 3
