Not sure where am going wrong but i can't get google email alert tones to sound when i can a new mail or even facetime to ring when i got the smart cover on, however i can get a facetime ringing tone when i've got the cover off.

This is baffling me....

Is Do Not Disturb enabled? It's the crescent moon icon in Control Center.

There are also some settings for DND that allow you to disable the feature if the iPad/iPhone is actively being used, which might explain your circumstances.

Think i got it figured now.

I'm glad you got it figured out, but it still doesn't explain the Smart Cover's role in all this! :)

Think it might have something to do with the way the cover locks the ipad when its closed.
