I frequently find myself using the MacOS feature where you have a document open in, for instance, pages, and you drag the icon from the top of the window over to the desktop. It previously created a desktop alias for the file. Now it appears to actually move the file to the desktop. Is this a Mojave "feature," and if so, can this be reversed?

Try holding down the modifier keys normally used to create an alias, cmd-opt.

I'm not using Mojave. High Sierra still drags aliases, but I had to try it to find out. I actually thought it moved the file. Apple's GUI is based on direct manipulation. I think the new behavior makes more sense. It's the same as dragging a file in the Finder.

This feels like a problem that could be solved in terminal. I'm no pro, but I've done some magic commands that caused all screenshots saved directly to the desktop to get saved as a .jpg instead of .png (or whatever the default was). Any terminal wizards have a bright idea here?
