In case you're looking for one today, they'll be available in most stores, and Apple just updated Apple.com to allow for in-store pickup of the base\stock config models. :)

Does "stock" mean you still can't get the 8gb RAM version in the store?

usually not unless you buy the "ultimate" version. That usually consist of the i7, 256 ssd, and 8gb of RAM. The other options are the entry level (default config online) and a mid range which is usually just an upgraded SSD capacity. Either spring for the ultimate or order online for a simple RAM bump.

is it 256GB or 512?

Just confirmed Apple Store's are carrying the ultimate with 1.7ghz/8gb/512gb for $1,849.

I wish they had a 256gb one.

Do you know if you can order a BTO option (Maxed ram and upgraded SSD) at the store and have it shipped to the apple store for pickup?

I am a grad student and I am always on campus and signing for a package at my house is really a big annoyance since I pretty much will kill a day.

How are you guys confirming the ultimate build being in stock? I used your guys zip codes and it says not in stock and only Ship to store as the option on the ultimate configs?

I called the store.

I called the store.

Here in Florida they only have all base models in stock, I went at lunch time and no 8gb ram or more than 128gb ssd.

Whatever availability you see online is exactly what they have in store.

If that's true, everybody who says the Ultimates are in stock have already been sold because all of California is out of stock now of Ultimates..

I actually live in Florida (Jax/St. Aug).

I called two of my local stores. One said they had plenty of them in stock. The other store said they had a very limited quantity.

Apple's website did not show them as being available. Only ship to store.

My local store (Greensboro, NC) had "Ship to Store" online, I called and they had the base model 13, and the "ultimate" model 13. I ended up walking out with the Ultimate...

Wrong. Calling is a better option and guaranteed. I almost walked out with one and online showed they didn't have any. Also there isn't a SKU for the ultimate so why would it show online?

Wrong? what is wrong? Actually it was right.

I personally went to the store at lunch time, they did not have any ultimate or anything different than the basic models.

Online store was showing exactly the same and they did not have any secret hidden models in stock, I guess this is the only place where online stock availability for that particular store is actually in sync with the stock availability when walking into the store.

I just picked up an ultimate (i7/512/8) at my local Apple Store for $1,849 less a 5% business discount. I have a mid-2012 ultimate that I'm going to give to my wife. No time to do any significant comparisons, but the new rig boots several seconds faster than the old one.
