Okay, I have had this problem since I got my computer, but I am trying to migrate to Mail and while I was willing to put up with wrong dates on my pictures, I'm not with my email.
When I download otherwise-correctly-dated emails from any of my servers, the date resets itself to sometime in January of that year. Either 1-31 January 2008 or 1-31 January 2009, depending on the year of the email -- that's the only part of the information it retains correctly. This is the date that displays on the main screen in Mail in the "date" column on my inbox.
In iPhoto, when I import pictures, regardless of when they were taken, when I mouse over to view information about them, it shows the same thing. It assigns them dates in January presumably in a way that corresponds somehow to the actual month. Basically, it recognizes day and year, but somehow only has one month.
These are the only date-using Apple programs I use regularly; I'm assuming others would do the same. I do not have this problem in third-party software, and the date my computer shows in Date & Time is correct. However, in Finder, every date in the "date modified" column is ALSO in January. So, same thing.
What on earth is this, and can I fix it?
(Also: running a Macbook Pro purchased 7/08, fully-updated OS X 10.5, 4 GB RAM, 2.4 GHz processor.)
