all emails disappeared from inbox

hey all,
i got an iPhone se, and sold my old one. i followed the steps at apple's website regarding signing out of iCloud, deleting stuff on the phone etc. now when i check my inbox (in Mail app on my mac) all - and i mean all - of my emails are gone. they are not on the iPhone either.

is there a way to restore them? what did i do wrong?

Did you check on the web - sign in to www.iCloud.com and see if the emails are still there?

If they were deleted on the phone and you sync'd your phone afterward they could be gone.

If they are still on iCloud you should be able to restore them.

If not on iCloud.com do you have an i-tunes back up to restore from? Archive it before you do anything with it.
