All kinds of confused!

Alright, So I own an iPhone 6 Plus and am running iOS version 8.4.1

I have an iMac that is currently running El Capitan and I also have a Macbook Pro that is running El Capitan

I'm having major issues. I'm logged into iCloud or iCloud drive on every device (my iPhone, Macbook Pro and iMac) yet stuff isn't syncing between my phone and devices.

I'll start a new note, save it and when I open notes on my iMac nothing is showing up like it's not syncing. Is this because my phone is running iOS 8.4.1 and my iMac is running El Capitan? I'm clueless!!!

New notes need iOS 9 and El Capitan.
